“ Opportunities in Construction, Manufacturing and Apprenticeships”

We will discuss the employment needs of  local contractors and manufacturers and the challenges they are facing in finding enough quality workers to meet current needs and to expand to meet future needs.  We will discuss how employers,  community leaders, educators and parents can work together to encourage young people, including family members, to explore technical careers in construction and manufacturing and  as a viable option.  We will also have a sneak preview of our recently completed addition to the Ogden-Weber Technical College Business Depot Ogden campus where the Composites and Non-Destructive Inspection programs have been relocated from the  main campus. 

Curtis is a lifelong resident of Weber County. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1977, completed a four-year Department of Labor  Sheet Metal Apprenticeship  through Skills Center North- original name of Ogden-Weber Technology College when connected to Weber State College. He completed Bachelor of Integrated Studies and Master of Education degrees from Weber State University. He has 10 years experience working in the construction and manufacturing career fields. Curtis has been employed the past 30 years at Ogden-Weber Tech College as Sheet Metal Instructor, Apprenticeship Coordinator and Director of Trades and Apprenticeship Programs. He also has 25 years in various leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America. He has been  married for 37 years to Kristie Wallin-Nielsen. They are now empty-nesters with  four wonderful daughters, three sons-in-law and five grandchildren.
