The man known as “Mr. United Way” in Northern Utah soon will leave his post to direct the Olene S. Walker Institute of Politics and Public Service at Weber State University.

Bob Hunter, 75, announced this spring he would retire March 30, 2018, as president and CEO of the United Way of Northern Utah after 17 years at the helm. But the opportunity at WSU has moved up the date of his departure to Sept. 29 to take on his new role.

Hunter’s resume includes prestigious awards and service as a former chairman of the Wasatch Front Regional Council of GovernmentsWeber County Commission chairman, Ogden City manager, Utah Transit Authority vice chairman, member of the National Association of Counties labor committee and a member of the Utah Health Systems Agency governing board.

He was also a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission, a member of the Utah Energy Conservation and Development Council and was a co-founder of the Ogden Nature Center.

Hunter was involved with the Walker Institute since it’s inception through his role as an adjunct professor. He said the Walker Institute, now 5 years old, still has room to grow to the level of other Utah university institutes.
