Trails Foundation of Northern Utah, (Formerly, Weber Pathways)

  • 20 Feb 2020
  • 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM
  • Ogden Golf and Country Club, 4197 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT 84403

Weber Pathways was formed in 1995 by three community activists to build a pedestrian trail in Ogden Canyon. They eventually found out that the old trolley line corridor they planned to use had been abandoned in the 1930’s and claimed by various private property owners. In addition, the Bureau of Reclamation was not willing to allow a trail on top of its pipeline.

The founders did not give up on their underlying goal to create a nonmotorized trail in the Canyon but could also see the value a network of nonmotorized trails and open space would have on the entire community. During the period from 1995 to 2010, the founders continued to be activists by refocusing their effort on advocacy, fundraising, education, preservation of open space and some construction.

Those early efforts created the momentum for the period beginning in 2011 and continues today. As a promoter, enabler and implementer, we bring to life the trails and active transportation facilities that are described in community plans and promoted by community activists. Since 2011, Weber Pathways has constructed of miles of natural surface and paved trails, tunnels and bridges with a capital investment of $4.3 million. These projects have been funded through private donations and grants from RAMP and other government agencies and private foundations.

We could not do the work without our like-minded community partners or the professional work provided by our board members who share our mission and vision.

As the organization starts its 25th year of operation, the Board has decided the business name needed to be updated to maintain its reputation as the organization that has brought social and economic benefits to the greater Weber County area.

Mark Benigni, Executive Director, and Aric Manning, Assistant ED, will talk about the new business name and the social and economic impact the organization makes in the community.
