Fire Chief Jeff Bassett has served the emergency services community since 1990 with the support of his wife Rose and his son’s Braxton and Austin. Chief Bassett is not only committed to Fire and Emergency Medical Services, he is passionate about supporting the needs of his local community. He was responsible for overall strategic leadership to ensure that South Davis Metro Fire Service Area was well positioned to provide the best service to the citizens and visitors of the community. To accomplish this, the Chief led 100 members assigned to five stations, providing a broad range of fire and emergency services to the community.

During his tenure as Fire Chief, he led efforts to initiate changes in department staffing and deployment, strategic planning, organizational culture and the department’s community-focused mission. Chief Bassett dramatically changed the staffing and response model from a part time crossed staff department, to a full-time professional department with specialty divisions in Paramedics, Hazardous Material and Technical Rescue.

Chief Bassett took the South Davis Metro Fire Service Area from an interlocal agreement to a full-time taxing district. His experience in local tax structure and creating new districts was instrumental to the financial success of the department. Chief Bassett served on the Utah Communication Authority Board of Directors. Chief Bassett has an extensive background with public safety radio systems, CAD systems, PSAP development and management.

Chief Bassett is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) at the National Fire Academy and has a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management. Chief Bassett has numerous Fire, Medical and Incident Command certifications. He consults with local municipalities, districts and private companies, to create positive change in these organizations.
