Chief Eric Young, Ogden City

Eric Young was appointed as Chief of Police in Ogden on January 12th, 2021. Eric Young has 27 years of experience with the Ogden Police Department. Eric served as the Deputy Chief of Police in Ogden Utah beginning 2012. Eric is a proud graduate of Weber State University and in April of 2019 received his Master of Science in Management and Leadership from the School of Business at Western Governors University. Eric earned the Medal of Merit in 2018 for work to implement an on-line police reporting program, institute a 360⁰ employee evaluation program. In 2018 he received the Weber State University Presidential Campus Compact Award for Community Engaged Leader.


Eric is committed to the Ogden Community as a leader should be to any community they serve. Eric served for two years as the President of the Board of Directors and two years as Past President for Your Community Connection a domestic violence crisis and rape recovery shelter. Eric have also served as Treasurer for Ogden Community Action Partnership which operates Ogden City and Weber Counties Head Start program. Eric partnered with Dr. Monica Williams at the Weber State University Criminal Justice Department to produce two studies on public perceptions of the Ogden City Police Department and a study on Racial and Ethnic Disparity in Ogden Police contacts. The study on RED specifically focused on external drivers of Disparate Minority Contact.


Eric is committed to his family. He and his wife Erin celebrated their 26th anniversary in March of 2020 and we have been blessed with three wonderful daughters. Away from work Eric is an avid snowmobiler, mountain biker and scuba diver.
