Superintendent Luke Rasmussen, Ogden School District
Early in life, Luke Rasmussen knew that he wanted to be an educator. After graduating from Weber State University where he attended on a football scholarship, Luke wanted to give back and pursued a career in teaching and coaching.
His first teaching assignment was teaching at-risk youth in Davis School District. Luke’s nine years spent working with these students were some of the most rewarding experiences of his career. During this time, Luke also completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Curriculum followed by a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision. Luke then spent three years as an Assistant Principal at Northridge High School followed by four years as the Principal at Northridge High School. Luke helped lead Northridge High School to becoming one of the highest achieving schools in Davis School District. He developed lifelong relationships in Davis County and loved his time there.
Luke then spent the next four years as the Principal at Ogden High School where he had the opportunity to work with a diverse student population and community that he grew to love dearly. Under Luke’s leadership, the Ogden High graduating class of 2020 had the highest graduation rate in Weber County at 96%, almost a 20% increase during his tenure at Ogden High. Ogden High also saw an increase in students engaged in rigorous coursework through programs like Advanced Placement, Concurrent Enrollment, International Baccalaureate and Career and Technical Education, above the state average. The most significant increase came from the underserved student population accessing and successfully these types of programs and courses. Ogden High’s 2020 ACT composite score also increased nearly 2 points with the school's diverse population showing significant improvement. In 2019 Luke received the Principal of the Year Award from the State of Utah Association of Secondary School Principals for his work toward increasing student achievement and school growth at Ogden High School.
Prior to being appointed superintendent, Luke served as the Executive Director of Secondary Instructional Leadership, where he helped and supported all of Ogden City School District’s Secondary Schools. Luke also teaches courses for Weber State University in their Educational Administration program for aspiring school leaders.
